Books We have reviewed for Kid Lit Exchange:

As I read this picture, I couldn't help but think of poetry. Then I read that the author, Matt Forrest Esenwine, has written mainly poetry. This is his first picture book. I loved his use of language and the illustrations by Fred Koehler were delightful. They worked seamlessly together. Children of all ages would enjoy listening to this short tale over and over again. Also, they would connect with it's simple story line of pretending in the dark with a flashlight. Let your imagination run wild. I would thoroughly recommend this book to friends, colleagues, and parents.

This intriguing picture book about the beginning of Hip Hop music is a fun read. Like Hip Hop the music, this book too is written in rhyming verse. Our students would enjoy learning about how Hip Hop was born. I hate to admit it, but I learned a lot as I was reading. For example, I didn't know LL Cool J's name stood for Ladies Love Cool James. I got a kick out of that. I also, enjoyed the clay art by Nelson George. It added a original twist this books colorful topic.

I thoroughly enjoy reading biographies. I especially enjoy them when I learn about someone from history that I am unfamiliar with. I have to admit I had never heard about Pete Seeger or his music. However, learning about how through his music, he helped America during difficult times. Also, how he stood up for what he believed in and never gave up. Finally, how he cared about our natural resources. I like the quote from the book "Pete walked the talk". That pretty much sums up his life.

This cleverly written nonfiction book will have your children learning and laughing all at the same time. The fun loving illustrations and interesting facts written about some well known and some not so well known creatures keeps you on your toes. Just when you think you know what animal possesses a tongue like a ... you are pleasantly surprised and informed.

Thank you Kid Lit Exchange for letting us read and discover this great children's book.

This picture book is so cleverly written as an autobiography from our very own planet Earth.  It provides young readers with important facts while entertaining them at the same time.  Our fourth graders thoroughly enjoyed reading the Earth's story.  It sparked great conversations with our students right before Earth day.  It's a must read for elementary students and space lovers of all ages.

Thank you Kid Lit Exchange for letting us enjoy this wonderful book.
